    Question Northern ky crappie fishing

Anyone in northern Kentucky area doing any good crappie fishing, catching keepers? Like Boltz, Corinth, AJ jolly, Kincaid, Ohio river creeks? Any help appreciated.

I have fished AJ, Boltz, Bullock Pen for crappie last year on a few different occasions. I really wanted to test those waters to see if they were worth it. I have heard they can be good for other species like catfish and bass but the size of the average size of the crappie are pretty small. That's what I've found. They are plentiful in lakes like Boltz. And there's no size limit so if you want to pull out 30 8" crappie and spend the time to clean them, that's your lake. If you're looking for size, I would head to the OH. River creeks. I have fished a few of them and they all have some nice crappie in them. They have smaller crappie too of course but if you want the chance to catch 13" + crappie, I think the river and it's creeks are your best chance. Again, that's just what I've experienced. I would love to find out there's a N.KY lake with nice crappie in it. Until then, I'll stick to the OH River tributaries and East Fork Lake in Batavia, OH as a backup.

I mainly fish Big Bone Creek since it's close to me and I know a number of spots. I would like to learn Gunpowder better, as well as the KY. River. Gunpowder is a very fertile creek upstream. Lots of nice smallmouth, just not lots of access. It's probably a good crappie creek too as you approach the river. I know others who have done very well there.

Big Bone is pretty good for crappie but I think this time of year, the best crappie are out in the main river. I've yet to tackle the main river much with my 14' boat/9.9 HP motor.

Sure... I may have to try AJ Jolly again... I really like that place. Nice campground and, depending on the site, you can pull your boat right up to your site. I just haven't done very well there on crappie. Lots of catfish in that lake. My dad caught a 7 lb. blue with a minnow last year while crappie fishing and I hear there are monsters in there.

I haven't been crappie fishing in a couple of months. River was screwed up for a long time & I've targeted bass for the last few weekends. Won't be long now & I'll switch back over. Getting ready to be my favorite time of the year. Most people will be hunting & I'll have the water to myself. Jetskis & pleasure boats galore now. We can only fish the river until around noon & then it gets pretty rough.

I caught one little crappie on North Hogan 2 weekends ago, lol. I always here the Ohio holds the big Crappie, but I havent experianced it, but I will say I've only fished down there the last 3 years and its been in July and August. So far Laughery creek has brought more fish than any of the other Indiana side creeks for Me. I will head to E Fork and Acton this Fall for Crappie, Wife and I caught 53 at Acton Sat in 3 or 4hrs and for August I was pleased.

I have been fishing the Ohio River creeks a few times this summer and most of mine too have been on the small side. However other times of year, especially winter, seem to produce the big crappie.

Last time I fished - and was catching mainly small ones - I did not see huge schools of shad. This leads me to believe that the bigger ones move out to the river in the dog days of summer.

Funny You mentioned shad, N Hogan was full of shad the last time I was down there, it was in the Morning not long after first light, I thought for sure the fish would be on, even tryed throwing tubes for Bass but nodda. I will probably head back down to Laughery in Sept for Crappie.
