Default Lake Barkley over Labor Day

Hey guys, been a member of Crappie.com for several years but usually lurk around the Mississippi forums since that is where I live now. I grew up in Louisville and growing up we drove down to the State Resort Park at Barkley countless times to fish. I haven't been there on the water for about 40+ years (WOW!!! I can't believe it's been THAT LONG!!!!) but we are planning on going up and camping there at the Resort over Labor Day. I'm sure it will be very busy. We've already got our sites reserved all together (5 of them) and it's going to be a large group (about 20). We'll have 2 boats there and would like to get some fishing in while we're there. There may be a couple of kayaks too. We always used the ramp at LBSRP and stayed in Cadiz at one of the motels back then but we never camped there. So, I've got some questions about the campground there. Any information you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.

    On to the questions:

Is there parking at the boat ramp there by the campground? I'm planning on leaving my truck/trailer there if so since we've got so many vehicles.
Can anyone suggest some good areas to check out for crappie/bass?
We plan on going skeet shooting one day and I understand that it's First Come First Served. Has anyone used those facilities there? Are they nice and how busy do they get over there?
Any other suggestions for a large group, maybe some attractions to visit or other highlights?

Thank you guys 'n gals!! I'm really looking forward to this. Back when I was going there, the Lodge was just being built and all that was just then being developed.

    Mike

Mike, Sorry can't provide any info on the facilities or the fishing up that way, as I live further South in little town of Dover Tn near Lake Barkley and Ky Lake.BUT I can recommend a Great place to eat in a small town nearby the resort called Grand Rivers Ky. You will need to make reservations for sure due to its popularity. It's called PATTIES.....Excellent food ...famous for their 2 inch Pork Chop and their homemad Pies!!! You won't be sorry I promise. Also if you are into Gambling.. Just about 30-45 min up the road into Illinois in Metropolis there is a Harrahs.....Have Fun and enjoy!
YOU CAN'T BUY HAPPINESS...BUT YOU CAN BUY FISHING GEAR.....AND THAT'S KINDA THE SAME THING.....

Devils Elbow just south of the State Park has a fantastic creek channel close to the main river channel ...

Can't help you on that part of Barkley other than to say I caught the 2 largest crappie of my life, 3lbs 4oz and 3 lb 0oz, within 5 minutes of each other, 15 feet apart, within sight of the Hwy 68 bridge. Several years ago.

For Bass I would try a buzzbait early in the morning around any obvious cover around the banks. Later in the day I would fish offshore structure.
