    Question Dogwoods already blooming ...

    around Lexington

Now, I'm familiar with the pink or white small blossom trees blooming in early April, but this is the first time I've seen the Dogwoods (large white blossoms) fully bloomed this early.

I've also "heard" that the Dogwoods blooming means the Crappie are spawning .... but, I grew up hearing that the Dogwoods blooming meant the White Bass were running (spawning), and the White Bass spawn in colder water temps than Crappie.

Anyone else seeing fully bloomed out Dogwoods ?? And are they blooming earlier than you would normally see them ??

    ... cp

Haven't noticed anything but the Bradford pears blooming. No redbuds or dogwoods yet. As far as crappie spawning, the spawning areas I fished yesterday had mostly males on them.

Talked to Chaunc last night and we both agreed we need some warm nights to kick things into overdrive. The 30 degree nights are keeping the water temps below 60 on KY.

Sarvis and redbud are blooming in Mammoth Cave area....Sometimes people mistake sarvis for redbud. Fish are biting, we caught limits the days we fished last week shallow on hot grubs!

No Pappy not up here in Mason County anyhow. The one in my yard is just getting buds on the tips of the branches. It won't be long though.

I noticed the dogwoods blooming this morning. That means the moral mushrooms should be coming out.

I stand corrected, Pappy. My neighbor's redbuds busted wide open today.

Yep, Redbuds took off today after last rain........

Also another good indicator I've notice over several years is snow ball bushes.......... I think most of you locals will know what these are..

They are usually busting at Easter but not this year...

Personally Doug, I'm hoping for many more 40 degree nights to extend this thing out. Call me greedy but I want as much of a lengthy spawn as I can get!!!

Males are shallow and the big girls are still mainly deeper. Specs are doing what specs normally do ahead of the white crappie...

i got off work this morn and noticed the dogwood in my yard had bloomed pretty much over night. fished big sandy this past wkend white males were starting to turn black on the belly and gills. most fish came in 8-10 fow males and females. fished up n some 3-4 fow and caught some black males that were really getting black on the gills and belly. i figure these 80 degree days and 60 degree nights will have them spawning good by the wkend at least down in the south end of the lake

Caught some females yesterday at Green River and eggs are turning red, should be soon if the weather would improve with water levels crazy this year.
