Default Kentucky Lake April 21-25 need info...crappie/gills/ears???

I will be coming to Ky Lake, KenLake Lodge Apr 21 -25. Will the crappie fishing be shallow or will they have spawned and moved out to ledges deeper water? If so, will the redear/bluegill bite be good then? Never fished for them on Ky Lake. Any good areas to fish closeby to Kenlake lodge, mid lake between Jonathan and Blood River areas for ears and gills? Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bassky

    Hi Bass,

Check out Ledbetter right behind Kenlake. Another bay good for red ears and bluegills is Anderson which is a few miles south of Kenlake on the west side. LBL bays like Turkey can hold good fish too. As far as what will be biting who knows. This has been a strange year. By then we "should" have a few more feet of water putting more cover in water. I would bet late crappie could be found as well as other panfish shallow. For gills and ears I recommend the Shelton jig. Baits and More in Aurora should have a decent selection. So does Bensons in Murray. Put the jig a foot or two under a casting bobber and work the banks. The fish will find you. Of course live bait will work as well. I like a pinch of nightcrawler fished on the bottom on a small hook. For crappie 1/16 ounce Roadrunners are my go to bait right now. Minnows will work too.

    Good Luck!

    PS
Have you heard of Crittenden? My grandma is buried close to there in Zion's Station, KY.

Thanks for the info Old Guide. Yes, I know where Crittenden is. I have a ministry at the Youth Dev. Center in Crittenden and I fish Boltz Lake there too. What does a Shelton Jig look like?

It is a small jig (various sizes availble) with a solid rubber body. There are two peices or rubber strung through the body in an "X' fashion making it resemble legs. I have been using a black with chartreuse legs but several others are available in various colors. I believe they are located in Greenville, KY so are likely more available in the western end of the state. Most all decent size bait shops in the area carry them as they are a top seller for bluegill and redear. I haven't seen a web site for them but I think this is their number, (270) 338-5915.

    Good Luck!

Ken at Fishermans Friend in Lake City has the best bugs on Ky. Lake. He has the Catalpa Bug that will catch them all day long.Go to Patties and get you a pork chop and visit Ken's. You will not believe your eyes when you see everything they have and great prices! Yes I know them and proud to promote a home boy!

Uncle Lee's has the Shelton products in Greenville Ky. Great store with a lot of fishing tackle. I'm not affiliated in any way, but it's a must stop when I'm down that way.

Both places are great recommendations for the bugs but they have them right up the road from Kenlake at Baits-N-Bullets if you happen to not get to stop at either of the other places.

It is all about him! The Lord is GOOD! Boltz lake can be good but most of the crappie are on the small side.
I have caught some nice bass out of there and a few nice crappie. I saw where the DNR shocked the lake and
took out some of the smaller crappie to put in Taylorsville Lake near Louisville.
