I have a friend who tells me at certain times he does really good up the main river past the mouth of Beaver Creek. I have tried to run that but with all the stumps it is rather dangerous. I hope to get down that way in the near future before they bring the lake up and plot a track on my gps that will allow me to run that section of water. The area they fish is a mile or so up the river. I followed a fellow back in August that had plotted a track and we ran at least that far with no problem. If I do that I will try to put in at Clay Lick. Thanks for sharing about Poopin Rock and Bangor. I know Warix is closed this time of year. I live in Louisa so I only get to fish the Cave 3-4 times a year.

Good report.. This cold snap may knock them in the head for a few days, but the 10 day forecast doesn't look bad..
Thanks for the report Grizzly. I'll try it in a couple of weeks. Were you using live bait or jigs?
good report Grizz. Glad u had lots of action and some good fish for a mess. I know there are lots of fish up river numbers wise and ive seen some dandy 16+ in fish ppl have caught up near last cpl ramps on river but theyre always white crappie and i seem to find the big loads of 7-9 inchers. I bet if we have normal rainfall this spring its gonna really change the main lake black crappie bite with all the grass hopefully taking back off and ill probably be up the river with ya. Been wanting to go here lately and your report sounds promising. Let us know if ya go again!
When I used to go there, I'd always put in at the Scott's Creek ramp or Twin Knobs. Best Crappie fishing results always came from the Cassidy & Shrout creeks, and the main lake rock bluff that runs between them. Have fished Caney Creek a few times, but wasn't very productive there. I've fished the lake since it first opened, but primarily for Bass, since that was the type of fishing I was into at that time. Haven't fished it much in the last 20yrs or so, but it's on my list of lakes to "go back to" ... now that I have my own boat, and retirement isn't that far off.
Glad to see the 6-8" fish are there ... that just means there's plenty of "up & comers", that'll be the Slabs of years to come !!
