    Default Cave Run 8-25

Friend and I hit cave run twice the past couple weekends and did pretty well. Had some nice fish two weekends ago(first pic) but got both our limit before 11 am this past weekend and all good eating fish 9-12 inches. Caught the limits on minnows in about 30 ft of water and the weekend before caught them casting jigs in about 20 ft. Once it gets hot we been trolling cranks and catching a few just about everywhere w/ some nice white bass mixed in. Heres some pics. Water was mid to high 80's and thermocline still right around 18-20 ft.

Usually they dont but theres some good ones in there. Just not in huge numbers unfortuanately. The avg. fish there isnt like the other large lakes in KY but there plenty of 2 lbs swimming and some 3s im sure. To get the sixty (only keep blacks over 9 and whites over 10) we had to weed through at least a hundred fish. But the keeper to short ratio was atcually tilted in the keepers favor, esp early, as the morning went on more throwbacks, but early it was surprising for cave run, nearly most all fish were keepers (no monsters but maybe 13-14in for biggest fish) although technically theres no size limit on cave run. They were grouped super tight mainly blacks which run bigger but there were some decent whites in there as well.

Hey Creekboy ya ever get a report from your friend?

Oh, and just FYI there where lots of topwater action with ky bass and largemouth whites etc in the jumps for at least a couple hours in the morning which makes for some fun. Good size bait/shad (2-3 inch) are schooling high in the water column in open water and they've been open game for everything. I wanted to go after em bad but didnt wanna leave the crappie. Good Luck!

Nice Fish Slabber, I fished the lake hard this spring back in the creeks around cover not much luck most fish were small. Just need some advice on the summer pattern do you fish out on the main lake or back in the creek arms?

Hey slabber, my friend & his dad caught around 40 in 3 hours with 28 keepers. Deadlining minnows over 1 brushpile (Clay Lick Ramp area). He said they had out multiple poles & just let line out till it hit the bottom and then up a couple feet He told me they were biting good early and then they got rained out. Makes me want to go up there, I haven't been there in years. It's about a 1-1/2 drive for me.
