Some of them look like they are from the old Perception Pescadore kayak mold and they are good all around kayaks in my opinion we have a 10 and 12. Some of the others look nice and wide with a pontoon style hull so they should be pretty stable. My older son has had one of the cheaper fishing kayaks and he uses it regurally and it has held up well.
A buddy and I both have big blue box store yaks and both like them. His is a sit on fishing kayak for under 300$. Mines a sit in fishing style for less than 250$...we've both been please
I have some wilderness systems kayaks but wanted to get kayaks for my children and wife to use occasionally and got them Future Beach kayaks and they have been real nice kayaks for the money. I found them on such a great sale price I ended up buying four of them. More than worth the price we paid for them; two of them @$179 and two "angler" models @$199.

A few years ago we picked up a used Perception Pescador (10ft) off Craigslist for my wife. It's the same model sold in at least one of the big stores. It has been a great kayak.
I have a 13 foot Ocean Kayak Trident, and I almost love paddling hers more than mine! Mine is great for the room and storage, but I find hers a bit more comfortable for me, actually. I don't think you could go wrong with one of those. Typically around $400-500 I think.

Schins,
Hey, sorry for the late reply, I've been out of town with the family getting some snowboarding in one last time!
My Trident is decent, don't get me wrong, but for extended hours on the lake I find her Pescador a bit more comfortable "for me" because the seat in her kayak has better molding for the butt, in my opinion. The Trident's seat sits pretty flat on the kayak and there's no plastic up the back, just the seat back. Her kayak seat has a bit more plastic surrounding it and just seems to feel better over time. If I could do it again, and I may end up buying another one, I'll buy a kayak with a better seat- an adjustable one that also sits up OFF the kayak (and out of the water!). Oh, that's another thing: water. I'm about 185 lbs and her 10' Pescador never seems to take on any water. My Trident lets a lot of water in around the feet and the butt, even with scupper plugs (granted, I could probably buy better ones!) so my rear is always soaked.
I'm going to start getting our kayaks prepped for some outings here soon, so I'll try to snap pics for comparison, if I can remember.

The box store kayaks are not my thing, but I see lots of folks using them.I own a nu canoe,it allows for more rigging, and higher seating, plus it keeps me from sitting in a pool of water.I do wish my back would allow me the luxury of a lighter, box store kayak,I would use it on quick fishing trips to the creek.
