I made a couple of those slick looking pool noodle floats this weekend that Slabbacks posted. Thought that was a really clever idea...
I don't tie to the ring at all, but I also fish some waters with current.
I have my anchor attached to a floating dog bumper, and then a 12' piece of 1/4 diamond braid nylon coming off the dog bumper. I put that piece of braided nylon through the ring and then do one pass through a no tie cleat I attached right within easy reach of my seat. By doing this I can still run the anchor to the front of the boat or the rear of boat with no problems. However, should I be in current and the anchor were to hang I can quickly release that tag line from my no tie cleat and watch it easy slip through my ring....allowing me to safely move on. The dog bumper floats so I can then paddle back and (hopefully) retrieve my anchor. Regardless, if I do or not ... that stuck anchor did not sink or flip my kayak in current.
I can take some pics of my rig if you need them or you can watch this video which shows the same concept.
Go to about the 5:30 mark to see the quick release idea. It works great!!
