    Default Anybody using a Hobie?

Anyone using a Hobie or have some experience with them? I've been fishing a Vibe SeaGhost 130 and LOVE it but now I'm thinking about selling this and picking up a Pro Angler 14. There is definitely a big price difference but I'm thinking hands free fishing might be worth it. Especially for trolling, slow drift, etc.

I use a big rig with a trolling motor and yet I have to say I am somewhat jealous of the hobies. They are sweet rides. I've been with other guys in hobies and watched them scoot across a lake in no time.

Hobies are nice, but Native and Wilderness System/Old Town also have pedal drives. Also Jackson has two soon to be released models.

May have to check that out. I am interested to see how that new Native Titan works out too. It looks like a fishing machine but awfully big.

I live in NW Florida and Hobies are very popular here. I have a 2013 Outback with the pedal drive. You still have to steer by adjusting the rudder but it's still basically hands free. I love mine

Look at the Old Town Predator PDL. It's supposed to be the best of the pedal boats.

for salt water, I think the Hobie is the way to go.

I think it is all in what you want to do and where you fish. So I think to better answer your own question you have to ask yourself that first.

If I was fishing offshore or exclusively fly fishing from my kayak I'd have a Hobie, but inland freshwater rivers and lake systems I'm not sure I need a 140lb+ behemoth kayak. I have an actual trailer'ed boat already. I got a kayak to be more nimble and access water I can't or wouldn't with a powered vessel.

That being said a pedal power kayak is very intriguing, and I think could make a big difference. I have watch a ton of videos online of the Old Town Predator PDL and the upcoming WS Radar. Both look awesome and better than the Native to me while maintaining a small form factor boat.

I finally decided to go the Pro Angler route after fighting the wind in mine SeaGhost last weekend. Not having a paddle in your hands all the time looks like the way to go. Although for the money, that Vibe Seaghost 130 has been great, especially as my first kayak. Hopefully picking it up in the next or two when the dealer gets his shipment in.

The Hobie sure is great in the wind or any current. It is also way faster than any paddle yak I have and I can peddle longer than I can paddle
