Kayak double paddle, the shorter you go the wetter you get. My grandkids get the 8 footers I started with. They night be getting the 10 footers I have now if I can find some 12 or 14 footers at a good price.

I broke my back 4 years ago, constant pain likely the rest of my life.

They put me in a real back brace not one of those, nylon stretchy things, but aluminum and pads. These things greatly reduce the pain. They are expensive but maybe they would help you.

Tim you are welcome to try mine anytime you like, and Travel Country as well as Sandy Sports in Daytona usually have paddle days to try out models your interested in. I know Travel country is no fee and no strings attached. You just need to let them know which models you are interested in and they will bring to lake and try em. I went in pretty much settled on a complete different kayak than the one I ended with. Even not buying new it will help remove models you know are not right or help your search for the perfect fit.

When I tested them I tried thinking of different scenarios not just basic comfort paddling around, although comfort was priority . I tried seeing how far one would lean over before feeling tippy for times there may be a lot of boat traffic either the river or lagoon. Even thought about getting across breakers just in case that idea ever played out. JAcksonville Kayak fishing has a forum that is fairly active and has great advice locally. Orlando Kayak Club has pretty much gone to FB. Piles and piles of youtube videos out there as well as most MFG websites have a pile of info on them. Austin Kayak is a great site with many videos as well as great pricing.

    Skeetbum,
I have had some nice canoes but really prefer my kayak over any of them and I don't have the nicest seat in my kayak. I would recommend a canoe seat for some back support before you try to spend much time in your canoe. In the kayaks you sit lower and are usually more stable and have some back support. Keep looking you will find a good deal on a used one and if it does not work out for you, you should be able to resale. This time of year I would have offered $250 for the kayak you were looking at. I bought a nice less than year old Pescador 10 for $200 not too long ago for my daughter. Good luck in your hunt.

Skeet, know what ya mean...back ain't what it used to be. Humping a ruck and jumping out of a good aircraft helped in that area lol.

Last year I picked up a Striker. For a starter it lit the fire and now I'm hooked. Now looking to upgrade myself and the seat has a lot to do with it...then throw in other things you find out on the way. Fun way to fish for sure bud. Those guys hit it on the head, get with others in your area and try some out first. As much as you like to fish and be on the water that seat is going to be a biggie. Stability, weight of the yak etc. will be other considerations. Good luck bud and let us know how it goes.
