Predator 130, If you get time would you measure the distance from the front of your seat to the round bar that the rod holders are atttached to? Do you have any trouble grabbing the rod when you get a bite. It looks like a pretty good distance forward from the seat. I know it has to be far enough forward to be out of the way when you are paddling.

I measured from the seat front to the rod holder bar and it's 18 inches, at the length I can set my hand on any of the rods at arms length because the holders actually face back toward me. I'm not stretching just straightening my arm and laying it down. To give another reference point the bar is 12 inches behind my foot pegs. The new one will be two inches closer but I mainly did that because I was raising the height. I figured if I only raised it it might get a little far away from me.

Here's something else I've been working on the last couple of days.

So the "rod holder bar" does not get it your way when paddling? Let us know how your dolly turns out. It looks neat!

Since my bar is only 24 inches wide it doesn't interfere, my boat is 30. You see the grab handles on the side of my boat? My paddle hardly makes it in front of those even while maintaining a cruising speed. I also use a very long paddle such that my stroke is at a low angle and can still provide me with some power if I need it. Most of the time though I'm just nudging my kayak in one direction or the other. With the new one I'll also be able to turn the bar vertically if need be and put the rods in my holder in the back if I wanted to make sure nothing would get hit if I was doing some crazy paddling.

I see what you mean about the 24". My bar is going to have to attach to the sides of my canoe but you gave me a good idea. I can move the rod holder more toward the inside of the canoe and get them out of the way. Thanks

Dang, y'all got some nice rigs, me and a buddy bought 2 pelican castaway 116's a while back to cut back on the long walks thru flooded timber while duck huntin. I have fished ponds and the river when it got too low to use a bigger boat and had a good time. I have been a bass fisherman for several years but now that I have kids old enough to go we are getting back into the catch to eat type of fishin... I'd love to rig my yak up to spider rig one day. Y'all make it look like it would be a lot of fun
