If the straps touch it it is going to get scratched. If nothing else I would try a pair of those sheepskin seat belt covers and put over yor straps.
I got a new truck thats longer than my 17 ft old town canoe, (had a jeep) when I tie up the front of the canoe will the straps scratch up the hood. And if they will how do you guys handle this, don't really want to scratch up my new truck.
Thanks Paul

Google "Thule hood loop strap", you can mount them on a fender bolt, or put them in and out as you need them.

Thanks I'll check them out. Also saw on yakima's site that their tie downs have a rubber hose over the strap to keep from scratching the paint any idea if that works.
Thanks Paul
if its a pickup truck put in in the bed and get an extension made that fits in the hitch reciever to rest it on.
Ya its a pickup, have a truck cap with towers and cross bar on back of cap, then towers and cross bar on cab, front of canoe goes a couple of feet in front of windshield, have tied down front of canoe to where tow hooks would be and they curve over the hood. Wish I could afford a brush guard for the front but they are 700.00 or 800.00 bucks.
here's another idea. find yourself a small jon boat trailer and convert that to haul your canoe this is how i did mine to haul my kayak.
No need to bother with a bow strap, IF you use two cam straps properly.

bfish said it right. been whitewater kayaking and raft guiding for years. just get some cam straps and do it right. I like the idea of a trailer and i seem to think you could get a jet ski trailer or harbor freight trailer cheap. i use cam straps for about everything. i use Redneck Rafter straps though. cheap and way better than nrs straps in my opinions. plus i like to support fellow guides.
