    Default Hillsdale 3/13/13

It's been 29 days since I've last been on the water because of things like ice, wind, cleaning up snow downed limbs, root canals, general dread of fishing this time of year, trailer flat tire and outright laziness. Went out today to see if the boat still floated and checking and refreshing overall equipment and general requirements needed to take the boat out.

Started fishing at daylight marking plenty of shad pods and at 8:45 am had my first thump catching a legal fish. Water temp was 41 degrees. At 9:48 am had my second thump catching my second legal fish and the last for the day. Between forgetting to take my sunglasses and the high sky and the cold wind kept my eyes pretty well teared up. Deciding the fish didn't want to play today for me I called it a day at 11:30 am or was it that the fish weren't cooperating that was causing my eyes to tear up.

Thanks Lee for your report. Almost as bad as mine. Hope this 'FUNK' leaves soon. I think it has even affected the 'Hawks'.<*)}}}><

Lee at least you got out, been home with a head/chest cold for a week. If Slabby Joe been with you he would showed you how to catch fish out of the back of the boat.

Lee is the water level at HD still really low? Today and tomorrow the weather looks outstanding...of course I'm working. I'm going to try to go Saturday...right after the cold front...just to at least play with some new electronics I put on the boat.

Yes it has come back up some since late December and early January. From this site http://www.nwd-mr.usace.army.mil/rcc/nwk/lakepool.txt it is still down 2.27 ft.

In December when coming out of Jayhawker or Scott Creek and turning to go north up the big bull there was a lesser stick up showing up on the east side of the Big Bull channel that I had never seen before. When checking it out I saw a large 5 or 6 inch or bigger branch just below the surface running horizontally towards the east for several feet from that visible stick up. I marked it and after seeing that bigger horizontal branch just below the surface I sure made a wide berth around that stick up from then on. But yesterday the lake had come up enough that that stick up was no longer visible.
