It is not unusual for us to get to a spot with a few near by piles and toss out a few bouys and work them in a circle. When doing this the entention is not to rope off the piles we are fishing but help us locate our targets quickly and to use the bouys as a reference. Usually these piles are within 25-50 yrds of each other. This is can be very effective if the bite is good for the area but not steady on just one pile. We are very friendly fishers and talk to just about anyone who will listen . I am not suggesting I am against it but where did the one marker 50' rule come from? I know there are a lot of angry people out there. I am very cautious when moving in where others are already fishing. At Hillsdale in the winter there is a pile that may hold several boats at any given time and if you are out there with a good crowd everyone can catch fish and also have good conversation. We come across our fair share of jerks as well. For example we were at LaCygne and 1 boat that had tossed out marker bouys on both sides of the bridge (~ 150yrds apart) and unfortunatley we did not see the one on the oppisite side he was fishing and came close and maybe actually ran over it. We yelled over and explained we did not see the buoy but they didn't really respond and came over and hastily snatched up their buoy. I think it made them mad. Maybe it ruined their day but not mine. This reminds me that I need to get the crappie.com decal on my boat. We often look for it on trucks or boats especially at the ramp when others are launching or coming in.
