    Default Melvern 03/27

Okay, Hit the water around 0730, wind was bustin from the due South. IMHO the worst direction on Melvern. Hit a small cove on the South and the first three cast had three keeps. 100 casts later had six keeps. (all males 6 to 5 Fow) went to North side of lake as the water is supposed to be warmer and it was by 4 degrees, 58 on South side and 62/63 on North side. Hit popular places and caught about one, ran over and hit a little cove that I know off a bigger cove and we managed to catch around six or so just cast a tube jig into the bank and retrieving. Most fish caught hit in about the 5 or 6 FOW area. 5 males and one female. Worked this cove for awhile we caught fish on the early casts but after that nothing. Ran back across to the South side as we started to hear Thunder and wanted to get closer to the boat ramp. Hit the small cove we started at and caught a number a fish on the first few casts then nothing all again around 5 fow, all males. Rain started got ass wet headed to boat ramp to take out rain stopped went fishing again. Hit some other areas was hit miss casting to bank caught a few more wind came up some more and blew us off places we were catch fish. Went back to the first cove caught six fish on the first six cast then nothing.
If I was to describe the fish they are scattered and just kind of confused about what they are doing, water is warm enough but the daylight is not long enough.

We tried some brush piles but did not have any luck with them, we did see a lot of suspended fish at the 12 mark in a couple of coves but could not get a bite( where they crappie? I think so by the way they showed on the HDS10 but they just would not hit a Jig)

We quit at 1130 with 28 in the bucket, not great but not bad. Plus the smallmouth were fun.

"Thats all I have to say about that"

It looks like I should have tried a little deeper on the banks this weekend. I tried out to 6 feet of water and didnt catch anything. They must be getting close though if you caught mainly males up that close to the shore. The females are still hanging around the brush. Maybe this weekend they will be a little more predictable.
I am going to try the walleye this weekend too, they should be going anytime now.

Really guys it was plenty tuff we made a lot of casts to get these fish. I think if the wind was kinder we might have done better. We do not keep anything that some one would measure if it is not voted a keeper then back it goes. There were about 20 of those from maybe 10 to no way to small. Small fish was just under 11 biggest just over 12. Need more daylight for this to get really hot yeah it might be a little early but they still use the length of the day a lot to determine the timing. April 6 or so full moon be ready then.
