We caught several nice ones in the middle of the day at Melvern last summer on 5/8oz jigging spoons and then at night scrubbing a grub. Spoon fish were as deep as 40', grub fish were as shallow as 2'.
Several weeks ago I was catching lots of walleye butt the bite has gone away and am in a slump since the temps have went up. What methods / time of day or night / depths / area's are you guys able to catch them?

Schools of shad are all over the lakes. Is there anything special about a particular one?
Its about time for transistion to summer mode. Gold blades, Gold hopkins spoons deep water during the day. Trolling cranks after midnight. Also, time to start watching the thermocline.

Taking all under consideration. What is scrubbing a grub? And now to see if I can find some hopkins spoons locally. I did find a good article on how to fish them.
Scrubbing a grub is using a slow, straight swimming retrieve with a grub, keeping it as close to the bottom as possible "scrubbing the grub" on the bottom of the lake. Academy carries the Hopkins and also a house brand of a shad spoon that works very well and it's size and shape mimics the shad that are everywhere right now really well.
Thanks. I dont know if the new Academy in Topeka is open yet but I'll try the bait hut first.
