    Thumbs down Zebras at clinton

ZEBRA MUSSELS FOUND IN CLINTON RESERVOIR - TOPEKA, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) has confirmed the presence of zebra mussels in Clinton Reservoir in Douglas County. An adult population was discovered by KDWPT fisheries staff during routine fish sampling activities, and a subsequent survey of other locations around the lake indicated the population was widespread. Twenty-two Kansas lakes have now been confirmed to have zebra mussels. Other reservoirs in northeast Kansas with zebra mussel infestations include Milford, Perry, John Redmond and Melvern

Bummer. There are treatment options from what I have read, but it looks like we just need to a really good plan. Most of the treatment options I've seen are not necessarily ideal.

I've seen them there a long time ago. I'd fish along the banks and you can see the mussels along the rocks/sand.

This one seems like the best option. Hopefully, the tests move out of the lab into the field!

Ditto on that. I already thought it was on the list. Been seeing them for years.
I think its time to throw in the towel on this one. The state fought the good fight but its time to move on to the next battle, hopefully one they get in on before its too late like the zebras.
Time to spend more of their resources on habitat, stocking, and general maintenance of the lakes.

Not quite that easy, haugboss. These are a ANS and therefore will affect the habitat of the lake. Pretty much, they have to be mitigated.

You can't really mitigate them. We can slow them down with treatments to intakes and pipes, but Once they are in there is no golden bullet to get rid of them. Just improve what we can and hope for the best. Zebras will be in every major lake in the state if they aren't already.

The signs are up at Clinton about the zebra mussels.
