    Default Waconda Walk #2

Hit the dam at Glen Elder again last night. About 45 minutes before Sundown. Walk trolled for about 3 hours. Dam is getting busy. Saw two guys with limits and another guy with 4. Several people with a few keepers including myself. Mine went 19 and 21.

Just out of curiosity, do you fish for crappie during the spawn?

Sorry not trying to start a war, its just opinion. I do fish during the crappie spawn and the few that are kept are the males all colored up in black. Just trying to do my part of conservation. Like I said, maybe its wrong, irs just opinion.

It was always my understanding that the Walleye do not have a successful spawn in the Kansas Reservoirs. Thanks to the good folks at KDWP, for the netting of the females every year, the milking of the females, and the rest of the process I have seen done every spring first hand at Hillsdale. Pretty Cool. Oh, and then the re-stocking efforts. Good fishing to ya.

A fish taken is a fish taken, IMO doesn't matter if it's spawn, summer or winter it is still removed from the water. I love to catch and eat fish. Not very good at it but enjoy them and hope every one else does also. You should never feel guilty about keeping a fish during the spawn or any other time of the year. Best of luck to everyone on there fishing adventures this year.

Interesting side topic. I don't care either way but have you ever done the math on the cost of the average walleye someone catches and keeps. Crappie spawn for free and I would guess the average walleye cost 50 cents a pound. If it's taken legally then they should be fair game but you would hope a big female full of eggs might go back, but I have seen to many that where snagged during the spawn and kept which is sad. I fish with a lot of the Kansas Walleye Association guys and they won't let me keep a walleye if it healthy to swim which I respect, they mostly catch crappie to eat.
It's not duck season so I have to do something... :D
