Alright dangit! I've been thinking about doing this for a year now and y'all finally pushed me over the edge! Got an order on the way from Netcraft and bought some more paint today at the local shop. Now I'll just need to learn how to solder.

Yeppir. We made believers out of quivira kid. Follow the tips on this thread to learn how to solder. You can do it...all you have to do is try. Results will be well worth it.

    Remember to use GOLD HOOKS
    Use a THIN SOLDER wire
FLUX both the shell and the hook
    TIN the soldering iron
SOLDER should start in only be 5 seconds (Mirror finish)
DO not move the jig until it cools (15 seconds)
CLEAN FLUX off with a thinner before painting.

Okay, the box from Netcraft came today along with my order from Crazy Angler. That's what I call a JACKPOT! New chenilles to play with and these ice jigs.

Ship, I've got a question. What does "flux" mean? I'm a total greenhorn at this soldering stuff. You say to flux the blade and the hook, but I don't have a clue what that pertains!

Go to home depot, radio shack, or lowes and look in the plumbing dept for flux. It is the product that you take a small paintbrush and coat some onto the hook and the entire shell. Once you do that you can solder the pinmin.

very good post ship I find your information very good we have been making ice jigs for many years. We do not use a regular soldering gun we use a soldering iron which is made by RadioShack and it is used to soldering electronics selects a very fine tip. I find it excellent for doing this type of work.will try to post some pictures in the future. We do use power paint on the blades make sure that you curate in the oven. Your best bet is to use vinyl paint
