The hair does look like bucktail but is softer and very thin center unlike bucktail. Is a real puzzlement.

That hair on a skunk is soft and fine. Also shiny like what you have

Maybe its skunk. The only thing that makes me wonder is the very thin center. Its like an 1/8" thick. Very thin. Would think a skunk tail would be thicker. The last picture show both sides.

I have disposed of a few that were getting into the chickens. Some very soft fur on those things. It would be really hard to tell what it is just by looking

That seams to be the closest. But the centers are so thin...about 1/8" I would think a tail like that would be thick as a squirrel.

Squirrel tail gets pretty thin when the bone is tripped out and the skin is left to dry. I have a few salvaged from unlucky road crossers

Cool...I'll go with Fisher. Fatman has been around.
Thanks for all your input. Has been fun.
