I'm sure what that is but I am pretty sure it is not kip tail. It does look like a great material to work with. Were did you get it.
Got this as kip tail...but its not as crinkly and quite long hair. Pretty soft and silky. Thin center...thinner than kip tail Any ideas? I have no idea.
Am sure its not bucktail.![]()

I'm with you in thinking its not kip tail. I bought a bunch on ebay from a woman that was parting out her late husbands collection. Most was kip tail but this is definitely different. I tied a couple up and they look great but will eventually list them and would like to state what they are. Centers are pretty thin. I'm clueless.
Interesting. Definitely not bucktail. Certainly doesn't look like kiptail either
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
I would see if Skip would know. I’m a hackle guy, don’t know much about hair.
It does look like a tail of something maybe even fox. It does have a shine to it

My guess: fisher, mink, or squirrel.
It does have a bit of shine. Not squirrel as the hair is longer and the bone is much thinner. Comes to a point.
Dont think its fox as its not as fluffy. Never seen a fisher or mink tail.
Really appreciate your thoughts.
We should start a game show....Name that Tail.
Not Squirrel or kip Tail. I would have said zonker but the hair is longer than most zonkers I have seen. Looks like a soft fur as opposed to harder hair. Just send me a piece for a more detailed analysis after I get it out of a fishes mouth.
Kip Tail and Squirrel Tail usually are more identifiable. Marabou from a turkey is soft individual flowing feathers from the leg area on individual stalks. That is more like rabbit zonker strips but the hair in my opinion is longer that a rabbit zonker.
Check places like Barlow's or Janns Netcraft and google different types of fur for jig tying. You might get a match there.
This was a nice post on using squirrel tails https://www.crappie.com/crappie/jig-...as-bream-jigs/
