Like JungleJimJigs and Skeetbum above I like to go with very low build up so 70 denier -- 8/0-- on almost everything. For my pine squirrel craws i go to 140 - 6/0 - but rarely bigger than that. I guess all the years of making trout flies leads me down the light, low build up route. That rope stuff just adds too much bulk IMO.

If you are using the larger size thread like 210 solely for strength know that 8/0 and a the smallest drop of super glue is almost always bullet proof. I will lose the jig to a underwater log well before my thread comes undone.
