Jiga, if you dont mind me asking, whats the long tail pieces coming off the back of your jigs? Is that flashing??? I looks different than most tail pieces that i've seen
I can answer that as I have a lot of it as well and sometimes will use it with feathers to make a bulkier tail. It's just skirt material, like silicone skirt making stuff.
I have a question for you since you must fish Summerville, lots of guys there use the gray ghost so do you use that as well?
Thanks for the info Skip. I havent actually ever used jigs for crappie. I usually just use minnows. I just received my tying kit in the mail yesterday from Crazy Angler, so I am actually going to start making jigs. I've only seen a few pics of the gray ghost on the forums, but would like to make one and try it out myself. When I do that, i will let you know.
I have tied a buch for guys there and they say they catch fish when no one else is. Its an unpainted head with Gray Rayon Chenille and the real ones don't use a feather tip, just use what I call my little V's and I use 3 to 4 Gray Hackle V's and one Black V to make the tail. I am pretty sure some of the sticky post at the top may have more info on my little V's and I did make a short video of how I cut my hackle and of course other than the tip the rest is cut into the little V's by just cutting the stem like every 1/4" or so, maybe a little longer piece of stem?? You probably do what a shorter tail for that pattern as that is just how it is. I do like longer tails, but not on that jig. I also posted here the other day some gray ghost type jigs, but I did use a tip in them and also used two different types of chenille. Take a look at them to see the jig I am referring to.
Here is a link to that video...
