Mustad has had some catfish hooks out in this style for many many years, there called Big River Hooks.

I've seen Gami Big River but not Mustad, would like to see them, can't stand Gami. If the mustad are the same or even close to the sickles I will switch to them for octopus and steelhead hooks.

Well Gamakatsu makes some of the best there is, but they cost a lot too. I already sent an email to one company asking them why not and lets see what they say. I do have access to someone there and would not want to say anything more right now, but heck maybe a couple companies will do something. Lets see if I get a reply back anyway.

Mustad hooks that I have used are usually just not sharp enough.

Shame no one has an in with Daiichi.

I can deal with Gami if I am trout fishing or other still water no rocks type fishing. Every hook I have ever used in a river had a dull point before the 4th cast bouncing around rocks and anything else the tip hit.

I wonder if we are wasting our time with VMC. So many people have requested them to make a smaller barbarian version it is getting to seem like they have no desire to try a smaller line.

Maybe Eagle Claw in the Lazer sharp line or Mustad in their Ultra point line may get something done faster.

You know what seems odd, I was in Walmart the other day and I found Matzuo sickle Octopus hooks in the store. All of them were the good ones and not the bad bend ones. Might make one wonder if there isn't some switchery happening to bulk buyers because they can better price in smaller packs.

May just be better quality control in the smaller quantity packaging part of their business. I don't know. I am just as P/O about the bad hooks as everyone else. Glad the gold sickles aren't affected yet. I just got a large order of them in various sizes. If I find a problem with them, I will post it. So far so good. I have been noticing a lot of bad Eagle Claws lately too. Points not finished and eyes not closed. All sizes affected. I am gonna start keeping them and count up how many bad ones in each batch.

Yep I feel your pain. I am going thur the same thing. very poor QC !!!!!! All come from China if it gets any worse I am going to go back to VMC or Mustad. I don't know quite what to do I got enough for a while and some old stock that I put back but what do you do when that is all gone. PUNT!!!!!!

Ok all have had about 6 messages with Terry @ Matzuo. Small glitch but they are sending me new hooks, which will be tested!!! He told me to destroy the ones I have now!!! If you have bad #4 Black Chrome Sickles contact Terry:

I have searched the boards and compiled a bunch of comments that are out there and I sent them to Terry, I don't think he's real happy about it but it is definately getting the message to Matzuo that people are NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!!!
