Good to know this is helping someone! Some just plung into something without knowing anything and getting in trouble is not a good thing.

I recently bought one from Grizzly jig. It came with a sticker on the instruction booklet and I think it even states it in there catalogs. Like Fatman I have never seen the warning anywhere else. Thanks to you guys I already knew the rules before I bought it.

Never could in fifty years figure out what the attraction was of those lures . I have several of those molds going up to 1 1/2 oz . Been hanging on my wall for ages . The only one I have used on a regular basis is the big one for stripers . I revamped it so I could use a ball bearing swivel with the blade and not have the thing in the way during painting . Bet I haven't made a hundred of any one kind in all these years . But then not to many people know I have the molds . SHHHH! mums the word .
i am ordering some from blakemore this fall to tie on and sell i think a lot of you guys could just ask tj or ron and see what they say it dont hurt to ask

Been tying and selling RR's for 4 years now! In the spring and fall I believe they out fish most every jig out there. I know that in Spring I use them about 95% of the time and do well!
I believe this whole thing is BS, now don't get me wrong, if a person makes pony head jigs and sell them as roadrunners then yes that is illegal, but if someone makes them and sells them clearly marked that they are not roadrunner brand I don't see the problem with it. I have seen blakemores explanation of how coke has a trademark on the shape of the bottle if someone manufactures a drink in a bottle that is similar but doesn't call it coke should not be a problem. Now keep in mind I am talking individuals, not huge companies doing this. But this is our great country, a bunch of attorneys looking to make money
Geeze have you not read all the post on this thread? Doesn't matter what you call it, they own the design period! A pony head is made under the same design and has nothin to do with what you call it! Ask a lawyer before you get in more troubl than you can handle!
look back at post where I posted the email conversations with the guy that use to make Stump Jumpers for Bass pro and lost everything over this same thing! It's in page 2 of this thread!
All I am saying is I dont agree with it, I make my own roadrunners for my use, I do not buy them from the store because I don't want to support a company that bought a design and called it their own and now sell them for almost 1.00 each without the body.
Making your own is quite legal and not a problem at all. I can tell you I have used Blakemore Roadrunner since the mid 1970's so not sure I would call that buying the design, but they were just smart enough to trademark it to protect their product. I call that smart. YOu may call it something else, but that is your right. I don't think they sell them for a buck each without a body, maybe some retail places charge that much, but I don't think they do. You can buy retail a regular roadrunner with chenille body and marabou tail for like $1.89, but that is the retail from like Bass Pro and not from Blakemore as they are the Mfg. and not the retailer. If they even sell retail they wouldn't under cut the retailers they sell wholesale to as that would be bad business.
Having our own right to do for our selves is what this country is all about so what you do is you right as long as your not selling them they don't care. I buy heads from them and paint and tie them to sell, but I buy the heads from them so it is something that took me years to get the permission to do. If I even sell a willow leaf blade on one and the blade doesn't have their imprinted blade on it I have to place a sticker on the package stating that it is sold under their Trademark and give the number. Personally they are my favorite long line trolling bait in spring and fall (we we are lucky enough to have a Fall) and I like being able to tie them for my self, but also enjoy making them for others. I do not pour my own heads of any kind so I have to do it how I do.
