Default starting to pour...have a couple questions

First, where do you guys buy your hooks? I will be looking for red sickle. For 1/8 and 1/16 should I use a number 4 hook? I was looking at do it molds site and can't find one with only 1/8 and 1/16, will they make one with just them two?

    Thanls

If you only plan on using a couple of sizes, I can tell you from personal experience that the pro mold work much better for me than the standard ones. The gates are a bit smaller and easier to break off when you're done and they break off cleaner. Well worth the couple of extra bucks. They pour cleaner with much less trim.
Also, the 1/8 work well around cover with #4, but upsizing to #2 for open water is a good thing too. If I were only using one, it would be a #4.

Are you talking about the pro series from do it? Do you have to use the size hooks that are listed or are those just recommendations/

The pro molds from do-it are more versatile as far as hook size variation. I have taken a router bit and put it in a drill press on high speed and removed some material to adapt them to take bigger hooks. It takes a fairly steady hand but it's not hard to do. Most of the mixed size molds, at least the newer ones, don't accept to wide a hook size other than what's stated. Start looking for pure lead now, not wheel weights, as it can be hard to find local and is a bit pricey otherwise.

Do-It has 1/8 and 1/16 mold without collar Round Head Jig Round Head Jig Mold - JNR-1062 - If you're going to try using larger hooks check to see if the mold is double sided. It will affect using larger hooks
