Default Float/bobber stops, what's your fav?

I am getting things ready for float fishing in the spring and I want to make sure I am doing this right. Normaly I use those rubber slip on bobber stops. Easy, weffective and cheap. I have seen a lot of the string ones but when I put them on they seem to be really bulky and when I tried them they did not slide through the eyes of the pole well at all.

Is there a better stopper than the thin small profile rubber ones? Not the bulky fat ones. What can a person tie their own stops with that will slide through the eyes of a trout rod better and not cut casting distance so much?
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

Never done well with the string ones so I switched years ago and still use the small rubber ones from Janns. Cheap and work with trout rods just fine.

    fish_4_all,
For me a plain old rubber band.
    Cut it.
Use one end and tie it on the line with any knot - even the old granny knot (square knot).
    Pull it tight.
    Cut the excess off.
Now you have a bead stop. The bead stops the bobber/float

I use the dental floss knot.

I have used bobbers from every place you can buy them and these are the best.

Small hole so you don't have to use a bobber stop. I use yellow 30# Power Pro line for the stop. Tied like Shipahoy41 shows.

ifish, I have a bunch of floats like that but they are not big enough to float a lot of weight. For trout I love them, use them all the time. But for salmon I have been using 1/2 ounce sinkers below the float to get the bait down fast. Do they make one large enough to float 1/2 ounce or more and not have a huge thing on the end of your line?

I only use waggler floats, either fixed or slip style. I normally use the string, but dental floss or mono (slightly heavier than your main line) also works well.

dbd, where do you buy them? I need to get some so I have some good floats in a variety of sizes and don't need to carry 10 different styles. No chance of me getting them localy.
