Default So many "threads" to choose from...

I see so many different types of threads for jig tying. Is there one good around type for someone that just ties a fews jigs?

Is this any different that the stuff in sewing department at Wal-Mart?

There is a difference in threads. I use mostly a 210 flat waxed thread for most my tying needs.

You will be happy with that choice. It is my thread of choice unless they don't make a color I need then my next choice is 140 Denier Ultra thread. Good stuff too.

I use the ultra thread in 70 and 140,mostly. Some think the 70 ultra is to thin and breaks too easy.About the only way I break it is if I nick it on the barb of the hook. If you are new to tying you'd be better off going with the 140 or 210.Lot's of good stuff out there.

I pretty much use whatever I can find in the color I want - craft stores, sewing shops, wally world - I'm not too picky. Strong metallic color thread can be tough to find. If you are tying bucktail or craft fur jigs, ignore what I just said and use the 210, make things much tighter.

Revtoby, give it a year and your necesities (sp?) will change..... I gave up on my finisher and do all knots by hand now. Also don't use hackle pliers all that much, I tend to break the feather alot using the pliers. The bobbin... yeah, you need that!!!!! Several of them!

If I'm tying a jig with a thread body, I use mostly 210, but 140 will do if I can't get the color in 210. I used 70 on chenille jigs and put sally hanson on all the ties when finished. The 70 hides better with the chenille and is strong enough for my heavy hand, though I do break it occasionally. Too many colors to choose from.
