That smallie came on 4# test - was looking for crappie at the time. Solid hit - fish took some drag and at the same time I was fighting it, I had to keep a eye peeled for where the boat was - lest the boat and I go over a low head dam. Got the smallie landed & CPR'ed, moved 1 column over, next hit was a 16" LMB, and the 3rd column produced a 10.5" crappie....was a fun 20 minutes.....

MN has a season on SMB - opens emd of May. Regs vary somewhat by body of water. Some bodies switch to C&R in early Sept.

What kind of snake is that in your last pic?

UG - No clue on the snake, i classify them loosely..... black water snakes and striped water snakes, this was the striped variety. :p This one was maybe a foot & a half long and they are all over in the small streams right now. They get out of my way pretty quickly, so they don't bother me too much. Only once did about a 2.5' one (black one, i remember well) think my leg looked like a resting spot while i was out wading........ THAT bothered me!!!!!

Soswine - Ahh, don't worry about it. You'd be tying alot to keep me supplied through the year. :D I loose alot of gear as you will see. I've got pictures of all the jigs so should be able to re-produce most of them. But would like to know the chenille name? Think i threw away all the toe tags when they went in my river box, lesson learned. :o

Fly Buster - Tied on your Big Bad Black & Blue jig today.....

Had many followers and lookers but this was the only one that actually wanted its picture taken. Unfortunatley..... on a cast to a deeper hole, i got hung up. With all the new weed and algae growing, the bedrock is what i like to call "snot rock" and i wanted to keep my work clothes dry..... so down to the deep blue goes another outstanding jig.............

Doubt i will be getting out monday, calling for couple inches of rain this weekend and into next week so my river will most likely be blown out for awhile. I will get to the other jigs though, stay tuned.

River's still up some, when it gets low and slow i loose alot less just because i get braver to go after most of my hang-ups. Unless that is that i know there are alot of fish hanging out in one small hole, i'd rather loose the jig than spook the fish.

I am planning to get back out and try the other jigs... but my lunch time river has been up and pretty muddy for the last week. Wanted to get out again today but had to get home early so i skipped lunch all together. Storms tonight, but if they don't muddy the river up, i will be out fishing tomorrow. I will come back to this.

Made it back out today! Yipeeeee

River is still up high, so i didn't even put on my waders, just walked the bank. There is a very large eddy over an area of about 3' deep water so i decided to give Pup's craft fur ties a try with the float & fly technique. I have not tried the float & fly much but can already see some advantages, only got hung once all day and even got the jig back. :D Pup - your craft fur ties have some excellent action, i need to get back and practice some more with tying my own. Oh yeah, caught a few fish in the process....

Here is the set-up i used if you can see it on the rocks here. The float is actually one of my homemade cheater floats i use. The jig was just a hair too heavy for it so it actually sank the float unless i kept it moving a little. I had it set for about 2' deep while i was fishin'.

Won't be able to get back out till next week, just hope the river stays low. Lots of rain in the forcast.... but i don't believe them.
