well freckles round my way here eat the he!! out of the shad"the American shad usually as they will stay when in fingerling size longer, most of the smoker(Hickory) shad w/ leave for the more brackish (salt) waters near the bay.

Flatfish46, Scoremaster, Doc Crappie - Got you all on the sign-in post, thanks for jumping on board. This sounds like it is gonna have some awsome jigs from the tiers signed up! Any newbie's to tying wanna get into this one ASAP to see what real jigs are gonna look like. Any new tiers are more than welcome. I can't wait! The clock's ticking tho..... 11-30-09 is sign up deadline........

Just to let you know, didn't really think this through. :o If jigs are due by the 1st, alot of people are gonna have to fight the "holiday" crowds at the post office. I will wait a full week after due date to sort & mail everything if all are not in, so no big rush. That way you all don't have to be at the PO during "the crazy time" of the year. If all come in early tho, I will get them sent out pronto!

Off topic, my 6yr old (7 in Jan) daughter just got into a kids only fly swap on FAOL. She's excited and has already got 2 of her 5 wolly buggers done. It's a pretty cool color combo fly & i told her she has to make me one too. I let her pick all the colors (GF, it's one of your chenilles from somewhere) and she is doing 90% of the work. I'll post a pic of it later.

Thanks again guys for signing up! - Russ

Default Pic From Lake Milton Last year

Russ : As per our conversation about perch fishing. These were caught last fall on Milton. To give you an idea the walleye is 19 " and the crappie are 12" so you can tell those perch aren't fidgets either. All these fish were caught on search lures. Last year time I was really popping them but so far not this year. I suspect " turnover " of lake was earlier last year.

    Awsome cooler of filsh Bill!!!!

But as far as this fall has gone... That seems to be the way it is going on northern OH in-land lakes this year. My hometown lake had a hard & fast turnover with a pretty good fish kill and fish haven't seem to be right since. No good reports from clyde, bucyrus or bellevue either. Some from Erie marinas, but if I go that far it will be for walleye!! :D Just waiting for the shad to show up.............

I hope to hit the Vermillion for some steelhead, as soon as we get some rain, that may be in the middle of us and they will fall for jigs..... I fish both fly rod and spinning tackle.

I tied up 25 shads with average length of 1 3/4 inches. Little threadfin imitations.AF,I have a 6 year old granddaughter who I take fishing several times per year, she's caught a variety of species already and she's always bugging me to teach her to tie some jigs. Probably get her involved soon. 19 month old granddaughter loves sitting at my desk playing with feathers, chenille,,,everything but the jigheads. She calls them "owies".She has no fear of hooks, but maybe in a couple years she'll be tying, too.
