    Default Crankin on Monroe today.

Did somebody say it was going to rain today? I was a drowned rat but spent the day on Monroe as I wanted to finally crank this year and had to try out some new reels. And no,,didn't fish the Cutright area or east of the Caseway. Spent 3 hrs crankin, fighing rain and 2' whitecaps and did catch a 11.5, 12, and 13" crappie, 1 nice gill, 2 - 13" bass, and 3 little crappies that did go 9". Kept the 3 biggies, then switched rods/reels, and went to long ling jigs in the same areas and about 2:30 or so break in the rain, and picked up 6 more 10-11 " crappies and 2 gills, quit at 4 and it was raining again. Fish came out of 5' to 12' of water on a couple of flat long points and from 5' up the point was weeds and buckbrush. All the fish were females except the gills were males,,,3 had runny egg sacks the rest were firm. Water temp 63. Wind about 10-15 mph...crankin speed was 1.6...long lining speed was 0.8 to 1 mph. Various colors on cranks,,red/craw, yellow/craw/ and salad bar..chrartuese tubes with nibbles injected. When cranking,,only nailed 3 little crappies,,,long lining tubes on 1/16 RR's must have caught 40 smaller crappies. They just slammed the cranks and it was shame,,didn't hammer any more fish with the cranks,,but they are wanting the slower bait as I did loose 2 nices ones about 10' from the boat due to boat control in the wind off the RR's. Will try again when the weather is better,,maybe tomorrow again.

I just removed The Weather Channel from my tablet. They showed the rain starting at around 7 pm, well a couple hundred yards from the ramp it started to sprinkle. No big deal but another hundred yards and we hear rumblings in the distant and then it gets closer. We are on a trolling motor only lake but crank up the big one anyway and made it to the ramp before lightning was all around us. Caught several small fish trolling that few hundred yards.

I use the radar on weather bug and waiting right now to see what the cells of weather are going to do as its looking like Patoka is going to get hammered this morning by lightening. I use the Spark part of weather bug to show where the lightening is. Wanted to crank Patoka today. Funky weather sucks. You west of Patoka?

I live right at the back of the east bay after you go past Hoosier Hills Marina. My property borders Patoka property.

Very nice! I would be shooting deer and turkey out of my yard, lol. Of course, where I live now, same scenario. Yesterday, we had a super large bobcat in our yard 3 diff. times driving the house dogs nuts. Told the wife to bust it with the shotgun, next time she gets a chance. Won't kill it, but will definitely educate it to stay away. It's now loaded with 7 shot lite loads.

When it comes to Monroe, pure luck, but I did want to stay out of Cutright and east of the causeway, as it gets pounded. And always a chance of a nice walleye or catfish off main lake as well as a awesome tussle with a striper especially on a 12' crappie rod. I think the better fishing for crappie is also yet to come, when this weather stabilizes more and settles down. Won't last long on the main lake as you will end up fighting the pleasure boaters and rolling waves. It's may 12th and Memorial Day is not that far off.
