Sounds like a good time! Equipment failures are just part of it. The more you have, the more you have to go wrong. Glad you got to spend some time with Tommy, he is very knowledgeable and really knows Patoka.
Well I decided to speed up my learning curve with Patoka Lake and since I'm still learning to crappie fish, I (and my dad) took a guided trip with Tommy of Crappie Hunters Guide Service today. While the fish and a trolling motor decided not to work with us today, I must say I still really enjoyed the trip. Through our discussions and showing me various tips and techniques, I learned quite a lot. Every location he took us too, we landed fish even though the bite was slow and very light. I didn't keep track, but I'd say we landed around 40-45 fish (crappie, yellow bass, and 2-3 rock bass).

I think my trip to Patoka was even worse. Fortunately I only live a few miles from the ramp. Got there yesterday evening planning on working some weed beds. Launched the boat and tied it up to the dock, drove the truck up to the parking lot, pulled into a spot, hit the brakes and the pedal went to the floor.
Backed the truck up and headed back to the ramp after checking that the emergency brake was working good. Eased the trailer in and set the Ebrake. Got the boat back on the trailer and eased my way home.
I was very lucky that there was no traffic and got home with no problems. The wrecker came and got my truck this morning. Looks like I have another Chevy truck with a rusted through brake line.
Two beautiful days in a row and here I sit in front of a computer.
Thanks bkhollan! With everything that went wrong, I really appreciate you and your father's patience. Like filletfetish said the more you have the more that can break,...just part of it for sure..... all in all it was still a good day. This is why I love the crappie community so much! People like you and your dad make it easy for me to fish everyday! I appreciate the kind words, but I too learn something about Patoka every time out..... it is what drives me to fish and learn as much as possible! By the way, just picked up a new trolling motor today....lol
