Default Fall day, sunshine, and binders full of fish, er I mean jigs

Wow , am I rusty. After a long spell of not crappie fishing, I could no longer stand it. Uncovered my boat, and had to knock cob webs off the trolling motor. Started off by cleaning out the crap. Thought I'd stick my drain plug in before getting to the lake and forgetting it. That didn't work out so well, ...raised my bald head smack dab into my auxillary transom. Nearly cold cocked myself. For the next half hour, I had to run around with one hand holding a bag of ice on the knot on my head while trying to load the boat for a trip with the other hand. I don't know what it is about being bald and hitting your head...it is like having a neon target that says "hit me".

Anyhow, the drive thru Brown County was absolutely jaw dropping. If this isn't the peak of leaf color, I don't know what is. Just so much, you could not take it all in. Great time to hit some small lakes around. Some you can have to yourself. Finally made it to the lake around 11:00 AM...head still throbbing....and knot still protruding. Ouch, the hat hurts if I pull it down.

Water surface temps were running around 60 deg mid day...probably upper 50s in the early morning I am guessing. The big crappie were not cooperating. They wanted it slow and still...it was a finesse bite. Could barely detect a hit on a spider pole in the holder...had to hold it to feel the thump. Tried deep and shallow and in between...seems like 10 - 12 foot of water was ideal...fish were holding close to structure. Wind got up mid day...but was managable. Around 2 PM...fish seemed to get active, but it only lasted about 15 minutes. At one point, thought I was hung and to my shock up comes a huge crappie...and I was so shocked and surprised I started grabbing for my net and totally mishandled the fish with my other hand and pop...the fish breaks the lower jig off of my 2 jig rig. After 4 hrs of fishing, I had 2 keepers over 10 inches in the livewell. Not a stellar day, but it sure felt good to be out there wetting a line again.

HHD jigs of course tipped with bee moths. I did catch several fish...just a lot of little fellers. From what I saw yesterday, I'd say we need more cold weather for fishing to get really good....say late Oct and November. Of course, deer hunting is going to get in the way.

    HHD:

I just heard that the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources has officially outlawed HHD jigs citing that they provide an unfair advantage over the fish. They are concerned that widespread use of such a deadly product could be devastating to the fish population. I understand that those currently using these jigs are "grandfathered in", and can continue to use them. However, their use will be forbidden to everyone else, and violators will be rigorously prosecuted.

I heard the same thing! LOL Thanks for confirming the rumor... If anybody has some of these jigs, send them to me, so I can properly dispose these jigs that are seriously harmful to a fish's health!!

I just heard that the Indiana DNR has enlisted the help of the U.S. Marshals to locate and apprehend Hoosier Hog Daddy for the manufacture and distribution of HHD jigs to the general public. Any tips on his whereabouts could earn you reward money. It is time to stand up for the rights of the Indiana crappie and crappie all over the US that have fallen prey to these evil jigs. Hog Daddy - they will search the lakes and woods and tree stands all over Indiana and will not give up until they get their man! Give it up now!

I'm planning on blending into the leaf gawkers down here, otherwise known to the locals as tourons which is a cross between tourists and morons. I should fit in nicely and elude any suspicion from COs , etc. Here is a sample of some of the crap I have to endure ....

Awesome Pictures HHD!! All I need to know is hows the auxillary transom? Because I'm sure it was seriously damaged if it hurt your head...LOL!

Congrats on getting back after the crappie and I'm with High Tide if anyone has some of the HHD jigs I too will help with the destruction of these WMD's ( Weapons of Mass Destruction.) before anyone get's into trouble. Just saying!
