    Default Patoka

Despite hurricane force winds and brutal thunderstorms, I decided I'd head down this morning to kick off a 3 day weekend right. Thank goodness I don't pay the weather man a whole lot of attention. The wind got up to 8, maybe 9 mph at one point. Total rain accumulation while on the water was probably just short of a quarter of a tenth...I'm one brave soul. It was quite surprising to pull up to the ramp and see I had the whole place to myself. It didn't last long, but it was a welcome site from the last time on the water. 20+ mph winds and crazy boat traffic on Brookville is now a distant memory.

I'm still in my freshman year of having side imaging and just haven't taken the time to really learn it. That was one of the main priorities of today's trip. I covered a fair amount of ground and then decided to see if I could go back and catch fish off of some of the places I marked that I thought showed fish.

Pleasantly surprised to say the least. First catch of the day was right at 10", second fish came quickly after that....

I ended up fishing for a couple hours, picking up a few keepers and probably three times as many dinks. Fish seemed a little scattered, coming from 2-9' down at a variety of depths. All fish were caught on baby shad or curly tails. Surface temps were 80 degrees. Other than a brief rain, it was a great day to be on the water.

nice going filletfetish. I've been going to sally. I've caught 60-80 in 2 days last week. Have yet to catch a keeper. ( 9-inch ) Not good!

Nice report and pic. I like the look of the hump on that fish's back. Your golden rule is a little confusing tho... is that an almost 14, or almost 12 , or just an almost 8...lol.

HHD, it's in the 13" range. lol The top bar is an estimated weight...roughly pound and a quarter. That big mouth coming out of the water and I thought I had another 2 lber, but if you look just in front of the anal fin, it's almost sinking in. I think this fish was primed to start feeding heavy. I hope to catch it again in about a month.

The pics are always best when you're holding it two feet from the camera, but as usual, this was a solo trip.
