Cool Greene / Sullivan & Minnehaha

Anybody been out to the pits lately? I have not tried crappie fishing them very hard (usually bass fishing) so I wondered what the word was? Any good luck?

Are there any pits that are a little better for Crappie... I know Bass lake and Island pit have some crappie in them since I've accidentally caught them there. Just wondering what lakes have a decent enough population of crappie to fish for. You can spend alot of time hoping around to different lakes, but I know they don't all hold crappie, or at least catchable numbers.

I do alot of fishing in the bigger lakes around the area like Sullivan (very good for numbers) and Patoka, but I'd like to expand my crappie fishing to the pits just for fun. Do you guys normall try to cast extra far due to clear water? Wasn't sure if the crappie spooked easy in the pits or not, I know the bass don't spook nearly as easy as you'd think for 10-15 ft clarity.

My crappie fishing knowledge is fairly good, just looking for a place to start in these pits, its a little overwhelming.

    Thanks! Thumbs Up

    BUMP....!

Anyone been out to any of these recently? I meant to all winter but never got around to it. Planning on going sometime before they spread out in the spring. Should be easier to target them when the water is cold I would think. I've never did any good during spawn in these gin clear strip pits. Seems like the fish spawn about everywhere and I can never find more than a couple.

    Thumbs Up

Thanks for the report, I'd like to get out and try some fairly soon, as many pits have reports of good average sized crappie. I'm not really seasoned on the pit fish, I know their numbers are lower than what I'm used to but their sizes seem to make up for it.

I've never taken a whole day to seriously muskie fish, but it sounds like fun. Their numbers are getting large and their sizes are outstanding for that far south. There are some mega giants roaming that lake. Some reports show they are starting to see a few in the other stocked lakes as well.

I'm guessing they'll be biting this week. Won't get out until the weekend, though.

I used to fish graveyard all the time for bass when I was young. Its a neat lake. I havn't tried there for crappie yet, but thanks for the tip!
