    Default Redear/Bluegill

So I ventured out this morning to a local public water and it was at least three feet out of it's banks, not to mention very muddy water. My wife and I gave it a serious go though, we fished hard and only came up with five fish, one being a bass. I can't seem to target or pattern summertime redear and bluegill, the one's we caught were anywhere from six feet of water to three feet of water.

Maybe I should've gone out into fifteen feet of water and anchored, do you guys think they're out in the deep water already? On a side note, I was at Hardy last week and the crappie were stacked up in 12feet of water holding around10-11ft...a huge school of them. I actually caught two decent crappie on bottom with worms at this very spot. If only I would've had minnows that day.

I'm thinking the muddy and high water ruined my chances today.

If we are talking about the same lake, and I think we are......I drove up there over the weekend when I had to go do a job up there. The water is higher than I've ever seen it, not a whole lot of parking lot left. I have still yet to fish it, but was picking out a few spots from the truck.

I got into some nice gills and red ears this past weekend a little north of Ft Wayne. 9 feet of water, fishing 3 feet deep using red wigglers under a bobber. Was throwing the bait right next to the lilly pads that were all along the shore. Anything further than 10 feet from the lilly pads didn't get a bite. Never anchored. Just kept drifting along the lily pads. Many had eggs. Will try to post a pic later when I figure out where my wife downloaded them to.

17 total. Maybe could have got more, but I had wasted most of my bait on dinks in another location on the lake and I ran out of wigglers once I found these.

Good looking mess, some fine ears and bluegill. I had nothing close to that today, it was a wash and humbling experience.

Locator we are talking about the same lake, I've mentioned it on here previously and it's got some nice bluegill and hog redear. It's a very tough lake to fish though, it's gin clear usually and that alone makes it tough. You can get on them pretty good in the spring, April/May and occasionally in the fall. It's no Hardy as far as consistency, but when you do get them, they're some awfully big redears in this lake. Big bass are known to be there too, crappie are surprisingly limited and smallish. It's a humbling lake and I've sworn it off many times but find myself back there over and over. This past May I nailed some HOG redear up there.

Yes. They are out. And they are in. And more will be in.

I started Sunday morning fishing close on some shallows I noticed some activity on. Just on one spot and after 15 fish or so they turned off. I moved out into 20+ feet of water and marked fish about 7-8'. Dropped anchor and never moved again for another hour and half, went home with 44 9inch+ 'gills. Many of those deepwater hens had eggs in them and many of those were fairly ripe.

So some are in finishing up spawning now, and some are about to get started again. Stay at it, try both extremes.
