    Default Kinkaid Advice

Heading down to Kinkaid lake this weekend and was looking for some advice for a first timer on that lake. Minnow over jigs? Fish shallow or starting to move deep?

I'd start about 5-8 ft with a slip cork in the grass. Minnows are my preference. Probably have to move often but should pick up some good fish along the way. What day are you going? I'll probably be out Sunday since the weather Saturday is questionable.

Thank you. I plan on being there Friday-Sunday. Weather doesn't look good at all but thats why they make rain suits. If you were to use jigs any colors you favor? Is there a area of the lake that's better West to East wise?

bad weather is usually better fishin'

There will be some shallow and some deep fish

Some places the grass will be to thick to get to fish that are bedded in it

There won't be many places that have not already been fished a thousand times this year

You may have to just try to find a spot that has been fished lightly or overlooked

You want to give yourself the very best chance you might fish a minnow tipped tube jig in chartreuse and something

Blue/white or red/white always work well for me. honestly this time of year I cover the whole lake. If all else fails or the wind isn't favorable the bluffs and brush around the bluffs hold fish pretty much all year. Might not get the big ones there but should be plenty of eaters. I have not been back in the creeks in sometime so I can't tell ya how that is. Still a lot of boats going that way so that might be worth a look. Atleast the rain will keep the pleasure boat away!

There will be a ton of bass boats out on Saturday, one of the biggest bass tournaments of the year is this weekend. Water is still super muddy but while out pre fishing for the upcoming bass tournament this week I've seen big schools of crappie on grass beds and brush piles ranging anywhere from 6-18 fow. I plan on being out there Sunday trying to catch all the ones I've seen this week while out looking for bass. Minnows are probably the better choice right now, seems like them better once they start getting into their summer pattern for some reason.

Well first trip to Kinkaid was interesting. First off the place is beautiful. Had a lot of success right off the bat on Friday pulling in 41 Keepers. Then Friday night it stormed pretty much the entire night while we attempted to sleep in a tent. Ended up with around 4 inches of rain that night. Lake water turned very muddy Saturday. We fished a few hours only catching a few small ones then called it a weekend.
Thanks MontanaBoy thanked you for this post

Good! Glad you had success. The lake only gets better from here through summer. Just gotta dodge big boats here and there!
