Default Advice for first time at Decatur?

My friend and I will be fishing lake Decatur tomorrow starting at 6am. Only can bank fish due to jonboat in shop. Anything to try, avoid, etc.

Yeah either lost bridge or the bridge on South shores drive/turpin rd. Those bridge pilings have fish on them sometimes.

You were not alone in struggling yesterday. I fished for 7 hours from a boat with a friend and only managed 1 keeper at Shelbyville. Guys we talked to at the ramp caught fewer fish then we did. We didn't see anyone cleaning fish at the station either. You just have to accept the fact that some days the fishing is tough.

I like to fish the docks around Nelson park. They don't all hold fish, but if you move from dock to dock you will find some crappie, and big one too! Also, sometimes the seagulls get close enough to bank there to throw for whites. I also fish the Rt. 51 bridge. When the crappie move up in the rip rap there it is really good. My favorite spot is the spillway. Big fish in there! But you better be ready to lose a lot of tackle, cuz the rip rap is just everywhere. I catch a lot of stripers at the spillway, mainly on casting spoons and big sandblasters. Don't give up on Decatur, once you learn it I think it's really good. It seems to be hit or miss on the bite sometimes, but the size of the fish seem to be bigger than pretty much any of the lakes around here.

Fished Hillsboro this morning from my canoe and caught a few decent LM. But had to be careful dodging the bird shot from the duck blinds lol
