A uni knot will do it all.
I keep some old line on my reels for backing as I don't often make long casts. So...what is the best knot to use to join the new line to old and could the same knot be used for attaching leader lines? My jury-rigged knot is soo big that it catches the line and keeps it from coming off the spool smoothly. Too cheap to spool whole reel with line $$.

I use the Uniknot for about everything. Have seen different people talk about using different hard to tie knots for braid to mono and mono to mono in different sizes. Have never had the uni slip on anything and it is small enough to slip through the guides if tying a leader. I use 5 wraps.

I always use the uni knot for everything. It's easy to tie and the more the fish pull, the tighter it gets. It's the knot they use at Bass Pro ( at least at St. Charles, Mo ) when they spool your reel for you.
Double uni is the way to go. I have fought muskies below the dam and when the line got down to the uni knot it still held. Once I noticed that my line was that low, I added, just in case I hooked the "Big" one.
Thanks everyone! Getting ready to try to tie one now.
