Actually if the lake or body of water does not have specific regulations otherwise, (usually a 2 pole and line limit) the statewide trolling regulation, which spider rigging falls under, is 3 poles/person with 2 hooks on each pole. I tried it out last year and had pretty good luck. Most of my experience was in the late spawn and post spawn periods, but it worked. I had best luck on ledges, just find what depth the fish are suspended at and set your bait around that depth and troll along the ledge. Like said earlier, in most cases the slower you can go the better. You want to go slow enough to keep your lines vertical. Definetly try to go into the wind if you can, and I'd guess a drift sock could help as well but I haven't tried that.

I have also used the capps and coleman method rope and 4 ft chain but either way you go your wright head up wind its a lot easer .
