    Is there any truth to the rumors that the IL river is producing HUGE crappie? A friend of mine told me tonight that fishermen are catching 18" slabs, fairly consistently! I did'nt believe it until I looked at the picture, the basket was incredible, with several monsters!

    I don't know about 18" crappie, but the river does produce some very nice fish. Had some buddies pre fishing for a bass tournament up the Illinois pitching some pretty good sized baits and they started catching some really nice crappie. They were very tight lipped about particulars, other than it was up the Illinois River past Hardin.

    18" crappie would be over 3lbs so I highly doubt 18" but I'm sure they are getting some slabs..

    I would love to catch one 18" crappie in my life time.

    Yes, there are good fish in there, speaking of peoria area and down by grafton also.

    I would like to get a 3lb crappie some day as well. The information about the river last night was very limited. The report was alot of huge crappie being caught and a photo. Nothing more was shared other than IL river. Looks like its time to go vist a buddy of mine in Henry.

    ive been fishing the illinois river my whole life and have never caught or seen an 18 inch crappie i havecaught some nice fish but 18 inches is huge if its true cuddos to them i would like to see those pics

    I agree with speckchaser5lb, I also have been fishing the Illinois river system for 20yrs and have never caught or seen an 18" crapppie, my personal best in the river is 15" fish that weighed 2.2lbs, on an average day on the river a mess of 15 or so fish most will be 9-11" with an occasional 12"er.

    Thanks to the regular river fishermen for responding. The whole thing sounded like a fish story when I was told. If not, somebody's found a very special place on that river to fish.
