Default Lake Shelbyville Report May 7th, 2010

Had a guide trip cancel on Friday so took a good friend of mine instead. Fished mid lake most of the morning. Started out shallow and caught some females and some males but no size 9 1/2-10 1/2. So Ricky said take me to the 13" hole. I said OK and reach in to one of the storage compartments and handed him a blindfold a said put this on. He laughed and said no thanks. Then I said lets go the the 12" hole he said OK and off we went. First fish Ricky set up on was 13" pig. Ricky said I thought you said this was the 12" hole as he reach for his note pad to record our location ( redneck GPS ) I said it use to be and I reached over the side of the boat and grab the painted black buoy marker and said, now it is the 13" hole. We had a great day of fishing and a lot of fun. 7 fish hit the 12" mark and 2 hit the 13" mark and the rest were 11" plus fish. These were our 12 biggest. Enjoy

Ken - Looks like you had a good day. I cleaned 10 over eleven inches last Thursday with the biggest one going 13 inches. It was good meeting you at the weigh-in a week ago. It has been a good spring for big crappie.

Ken-- What do you think the 7 biggest would have weighed? Those 12 inchers, with eggs, usually weigh right at a pound or more, so I would guess that you had around 7 3/4 lb. What's your guess?

Ken... it was nice meeting you and your wife that day. Hope you are doing well after your surgery. You are right about a good year for big crappie.

XXLFISH... Some of the 12" fish have already spawned but most haven't yet. Some of the big females had eggs running out when they came in the boat. The bigger females our going to spawn in 6-12 feet of water on the south end. Water is gen clear and the hatch should make it. The dirty the water the shallower they will go. You don't want to take to many males right now the reason being is they will have to guard the fry after the eggs hatch for sometime. We weighed our 7 biggest on a hand held digital scale and it said 8 lb 2 oz. Don't know how accurate it is.

You are going to scan Ricky's notes and post on the board aren't you...LOL. Saw your truck in the parking lot.

Nice day and great mess of crappie.

Ranger375... I looked at the note pad when we were finished and I couldn't make heads or tails out of them. On one page he had a standing tree with a buzzard in it and I no we didn't go anywhere near buzzards roost...lol..
