    Angry Accident!

So I had my first fishing related accident tonight at Evergreen. I was fishing some brush, thump, set the hook, completely miss, jig flies up and over and smokes me right in the back of the head, son of a b**** that hurt. 1/8 oz makes the eyes water and short term hearing loss. Anybody else?

Several years ago I was casting jigs at Reelfoot in the lily pads for 'gills. Well, the jig got hung up on a lily pad stem about 30 ft. from the boat. Finally, after not being able to free the jig, grabbed the line and pulled until something would let go! I saw it coming but couldn't do anything about it........the jig smacked me square on the right thumb nail!!! Couldn't have hurt worse if I'd hit it with a BIG hammer!!!!!! After talking to the Lord for a few minutes, went back to fishing. I won't do THAT again!!!! You can put it in the bank!!!! :o

yeah it sucks i had it happen to me about 3 years ago.
i was casting a 1/8 ounce roadrunner and got it hung up in a tree limb so i started trying to shake it loose no luck so i wrapped the line around the reel and started pulling on it
it straighten the hook and came loose and hit me in the eye!!!
i was glad i was wearing sun glasses because it broke the lens!!!!
would have hate to seen what it would have done if i hadnt had them on.

I was sauger fishing a couple years ago and ended up with a stinger hook buried in my finger. I had caught a nice 23 inch sauger and was trying to get it out of the net and he flopped and that hook set right in the finger. Had to have the quick hook removal trick done and it works like a charm. Them sauger are some of the meanest tempered fish I think I have ever seen. If you just go to grab them they swell up like a rooster!

Unlike some people I fish with, I have found that you catch more fish in the water around the trees and brush, not in the trees and brush around the water! I did, however, learn when I was about 10 years old that you can have too much line out when casting! I was fishing with Grandpa out on the river for catfish, and he had repeatedly told me, "Ben, you've got too much line hanging down, you're gonna get yourself." What did he know! I was 10 and knew just about everything there was to know about fishing at that point! Anyway, I rared back to cast that piece of shad as far as I had line on the reel. (The best fishing on the river is ALWAYS as far away from the boat as you can get!) I come forward and start to let go of the release when WHAM! I screamed like a little school girl and did some sort of dance in the boat. I had managed to hook myself right behind my right ear, and dang near ran it past the barb. Grandpa was able to get it out, gave me a few choice words of advice and several I told you this would happen. Lesson learned! Fish close to the boat, and don't leave more that about a foot of line out!

When I was 8 I got a mepps hung on a log couldn't get it out so I had a buddy try I was standing right behind him. When that thing came loose it flew past his head and into my chin. It hit so hard the point buried into the bone. The part that hurt the worst was bruise the lure left on my face. Who woulda thought 50 lbs spiderwire wasn't good for bass fishing.

How about jug fishing and throwing out a one gallon jug 1/2 full of water with a huge hook with a bluegill attached to it and the hook catching and lodging in your middle finger. A trip to the ER with the bluegill still on the hook and a lot of strange looks. Do I even need to describe the pain/embarrassment?

My Old Buddy Rick Was Fishing By Himself And Catching A Good Number Of Crappie, When On One Of His Casts Hit Something Behind Him, And On The Forward Thrust, The Jig Went Right Into His Earlobe. He Couldn't Get It Out So He Cut The Line And Fished The Rest Of The Day With The Jig Still In His Ear. Took It Out When He Got Home.

I was about 10 and fishing a creek with a lead head and twister when I got snagged in root above the water. At that time using probably about 25lb test on the Zebco 33 just in case I got a BIG fish. I pulled on that hard enough the hook snapped off and the jig head came back right into my bare leg. No hook but I swore I had just been shot by a .22. To this day I will not pull on a lure snagged above the water line.
