It's not the dog in the fight, the fight in the dog
had coon dog that ran with me when i was a kid walking all over the big ranches i wandered around in . she would run and tree about anything . one fine day the rancher was on his way to feed and check his cattle some 30 miles off the pavement and while we talked she went into a got something treed hollar .
he said wonder what "Bell" has treed today , not much telling was my response , asked if I wanted to ride in his truck over that way and see what she had up the tree , said she sounded a bit different to him that day
sure lets go said me , we went about a mile up a goat trail road thru the trees , to a large pasture and the second we cleared the woodline , we both saw the lion jump the tree , it left so fast it was hard to imagine with Bell of course in hot pursuit . there was no doubt about it being a lion as the tail on them things is as long as the cat , it looked to be a young one as it wasn't any larger than that big ole bluetick hot on it.
never seen it again and an hour or 2 later Bell showed back up as the norm, looking a little winded but good to keep going as always .
she was retired coonhound given to me and her ears looked like dreadlocks , she was sure enough one tough ole gal ....

she was a tail wagging looking all tired and worn out big ole floppy ear dog and friendly as could be with humans

when the coon guy gave her up , he said she was one of his best ever dogs and until I seen her at work, I was like sure whatever you say sir .....

dang things are big reason why we are seeing so few turkeys in MO anymore when we used to be one of best states to hunt them. see their tracks all the time and so few bother to go after them with calls and fewer trap them anymore.
I shoot every nest robbing coon or possom I see in woods. did see bobcat while I was in a place back when you had to wait for second weekend to shoot does and had dozen all around my deer stand. They looked at it, didn't bother them too much in fact couple of does went after it and it had to get into a thicket to get away from them. Interesting enough when a coyote came thru they did run from it, which seemed strange.
I love to watch bobcats. Saw one last year carrying a black squirrel in its mouth. A married couple that hunts in the area saw an adult teaching 2 young ones how to catch squirrels in trees. Year's ago I lived near a swamp that had a resident pair. Pretty amazing listening to their vocalizations during mating season.
