Y'all got some really nice deer down that way. Sorry to hear about all the trouble for your nephew.
Crappie fishing is my lighthouse of sanity in an insane world,

Another government intervention. They know what is best for you!!! They know what is best for your land!! They know what is best for your family!!! Just shut up and pay your taxes and ask them for permission to do ANYTHING on your OWN PRIVATE LAND!!
I agree game laws need to be in place and enforced, but who is to say what is a "cull" buck. Most "cull" bucks in other places, Kansas, Texas, Illinois are "Big Bucks" where I hunt.
Your nephew should have just lied and said he killed it in the other county. It would be hard for the Game Warden to prove exactly where it was killed.
Side note, your neighbor may be a SOB, but your nephew broke the law, as dumb as it is, and then bragged about it on social media. DO NOT THINK FOR ONE SECOND that our wonderful nanny state gov't does not monitor these sites.

Deer hunting has gotten out of hand ridiculous with rules, regulations and seasons. Bow, Muzzle loader, pistol, rifle season all coming in and out. This is great if you are rich and do not have a job and can hunt all the time. It really sucks to have a free week end to hunt, but you have to have 1000 dollar worth of equipment to follow the law and have a specialized weapon just to shoot a doe for meat. Not to mention the amount of money for leases, game cameras, feeders , food plots, dog feed , the list goes on and on . Then you throw in others who are jealous or terrible neighbors that think they own your property as well and want to police it like it was their own.
Things change, I realize this, but I remember the times when a fellow would kill a buck of HIS lifetime, he would get congratulated. Now it is like you have to keep it secret that you killed a good one so nobody gets mad. I have heard this at the skinning rack on numerous occasions. "That would have been a good one next year", " I let that deer walk last week", "I have been hunting that deer all year" and then the hunter that did not kill it stomps off mad. It is just silly.
TV shows and all the money being made off of the "wild" animals will kill this sport, or make it so expensive that only the elite will be able to afford it. And I say "wild" loosely. When you feed them year round out of a feeder and then plant crops specifically for the deer, that takes the wild out of them I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU SAY!! Then when you hunt for them over the feeder, from a heated air tight stand, what have you really done? Are you the great and mighty hunter when you kill one over corn? That type of hunting is fine for survival, but IT IS NOT CHALLANGEING TO SHOOT A DEER WITH THEIR HEAD IN A CORN PILE.
My rant is through, unless someone wants to talk about the ethics of the new hunter vs the old hunter.

Good rant Chilly. Got every right to speak your piece. I concur with most you said, but at 71, not so tough as I used to be. Been down that road on
many leases and paid my dues walkin' the hills and valleys stalkin' deer. Now, I'm happy feedin' 'em and watchin' 'em eat at the feeder. If the freezer needs some fresh
venison and the season is legal, down they will go. Will winch it up out of the creek with my ATV winch and pull 'em up on the butcher table and do my thing. If you will
notice, I haven't posted anything here about my kill. No, I don't think Facebook is very smart either, but I was not put in a position to judge others either. What I do and
how I do it is still private to me and as long as I have the ability to do my thing, they will remain private. Fond memories of a good many successful adventures are to be
shared with close friends and family I trust. Not much gained with braggin' unless you want to put yourself out there for being picked apart. When I relate a story like I
did in this thread, hopefully it will help a younger person to think about the feedback that may come as a result of an action. My need for challenges comes everyday right
after my feet hit the floor. Planning a day in retirement is challenge enough. Do I go fishin' today, or do I take the wife out to dinner? That is the extent of my challenge
for the day. Appreciate your points and remarks. Have a great Christmas & Holiday Season.

I feel for your nephew having to give up his trophy. I just get tired of all the government intervention now days. They think they are my daddy or something, when in ACTUALITY they are a PAID GOVT entity that works for its own agenda and could not give a tinkers damn about the wildlife. They are just the Good ol' boy police that will let their buddy get by, but if you try it they will nail your butt to the wall.
The kicker is that "we the people" stand there and take it. We need to wake up and realize that we give them the power and we can also take it away.

And the rest of the story is..............your exactly right. At the end of the day,
it has a nightmare ending. This nightmare won't end for several years. He regrets it everyday. The story ain't over yet.
