    Default My public land buck

Here is my biggest this year Black Crow it's only a 7 point , a mature deer .I've killed several bigger in the past, but I'm happy with this one. It is doubtfull he would get much bigger. Shot with 30.06 at 170 yards by gps in the neck, dropped like a rock. There was a smaller buck with him , but I had to haul this one over a mile through downed trees. WMA lands don't allow us to use ATV's . Getting too old to haul them out under my own power. Sure glad I did'nt shoot his buddy, the smaller buck hung around a good while after the shot. Here in west-central Arkansas there is not the trophy potential like the fertile bottom lands where they grow corn and soybeans. To up your odds of killing a monster buck you have to hunt where they grow to increase the odds. For most areas a mature buck will never even come close to the horn porn you see on all the magazines and on film.

That's certainly a fine deer you got there. I bet you enjoyed that haul out of the woods. I ended up in in the same situation last week and that was the first time I actually considered buy an ATV (legal on certain WMAs here).

Good luck if you get back out there over the Thanksgiving break. Gun season just opened here in TN, so I'm hoping to get out too.

Congrats again on a mighty fine one.

Thats a damn fine deer right there. And if them tv shows had to be made on the average Joe's public land you would see a much different picture. Congrats man.
