    Default Skunked on Allatoona

Fished Allatoona Friday night under Kellogg Creek bridge with those new green lights from Bass Pro. I was really not impressed with them, I might do what somebody else recommended and use a white light with them too. We attracted plenty of shad, but only caught 3 small crappie. Kind of dissapointing really. It has been a few years since I fished under that bridge with my dad, but we never had a night like that. Any advise you guys can give me would be great. We used a combination of minnow tipped jigs and plain minnows, made sure to change colors on the jigs too.
    thanks guys.

I fish allatoona, but I haven't gotten down to Kellog Creek yet. Too much boat traffic. I bet the fishing is messed up with all the rain that we have had. Was the water muddy? How deep were you fishing? The last time I fished Allatoona at night, we caught them in 8-12 feet of water.

I use the green lights from bass pro. They have two different ones. One of the green tubes comes with a white light at the bottom and the other is just a long green tube. I have three of the ones with the white light at the bottom and one of the long green tubes. I didn't have many bait fish come to the floating headlight type. Plus it draws more current from the battery.

As for bait, I have had more sucess with minnows that anything else at night. I don't even put a jig in the water anymore (at night).

I hope all this rain gets out of here so the water will clear up and I can get back to fishin.

I wouldn't beat myself up over a bad night. Wait untill this weather clears out and give it another try.

The water was very clear, a lot better than I expected, there was lots of debris on top. We were in a about 17 ft, fishing between 10-12 ft down. My depth finder has been acting up recently, so I am not sure exactly what was under us, if anything. We used to dang near fill a cooler there before midnight, but the past few times I have been out have not been good, especially since the gears finally gave out in the lower unit causing me to buy a new(to me) boat. Oh, I always expect a to get skunked a couple times a year, that is why they call if fishing and not catching. I didn't see that combo light the past couple times at bass pro, but I will keep my eyes open. Let me know how you guys do up there.

Just a thought...you say you were in 17 feet of water? Do you think that is deep enough to hold large numbers of crappie this time of year? I know they like depth in the summer. We watched a huge school underneath us in 40 foot of water at West point and they did not move any shallower than 24 feet deep until around 10 pm. Then they came up.

I would think that was deep enough, usually they move under the bridge as they travel into the channel from the main lake. I've caught them there this time of year before, but any advise is greatly appreciated, maybe next time I will run up to little river in search of some deeper water. Thanks.

I put in at little river and catch fish 8-12' deep in about 28' of water. I have been thinking about trying a night stalk at the mouth of sweet water creek. I don't know how many boats go in and out of there throughout the night, but it might be pretty productive. There are a few places that I have been wanting to try. I need to get some more bamboo to make condos with so I can have them in multiple spots. I get it in North GA and I only get it when I go up to visit family (Near Chatt.) I got a friend that get me buckets off the job sites. He said he has a bunch waiting for me. When I night stalk I don't try to set up right over my condos, just in the near vicinity and it has been productive so far. I thought about putting some condos at the mouth of Sweetwater creek. I know a lot of people fish there, but it would be a piece of structure to catch crappie eggs and maybe help out the population. I usually catch fish, but I have yet to limit out. I seem to stay between 20 - 30 fish with two people in the boat. It is not the best numbers, but it is plenty for dinner. I have talk to others that have limited out or say that they did. Hopefully, with the help off this website, my numbers will increase. Especially with the addition of the crappie condos. I am also going to try to setup some trips thru the week when there is less activity on the lake.

Good luck on your next trip and let me know how you do. I will post the results of my next trip, but it will be after all the rain gets out of here and the water clears up a bit.
