Thread: Eufaula

I'm hoping to get down there at least once before the tournament. Hate to fish a tournament blind.

I have never fished Eufala. I used to hear a lot of stories a long time ago but I never hear anyone talk about Eufala anymore. Could you share any knowledge about Eufala? If so i would appreciate it.

I'll give you my take and I'm sure some will not agree with my take but here it goes: I grew-up fishing Eufaula. It was one of my Dad's favorite lake. Patulla creek and the sunken bridge was the main area we fished and just “KILLED” the crappie through the 70’s until the late 90’s. Due to my military career, I left and returned in 1999 to resume fishing my favorite lake again. It became a hit-and-miss event every time we went. In talking to some of the locals they seem to feel that with the last couple year’s drought and the Corps always playing with the water level on the lake the crappie fishing isn’t what it use to be. I know there’s still good crappie fishing to be had there but it’s just not as constant as it use to be. Two years ago, my partner and I would swap between Eufaula and Talquin. Last year, I just said enough of the guessing game and stuck with Talquin (also closer to home).
I still go to Eufaula to slay the big Stripers and hybrids during the March/April run at the dam. But as far as crappie, when I go, I don’t want to guess/hope my fishing is bound by the Corps of Engineers.
One more thing, the constant size of crappie at Eufaula can’t match Talquin’s crappie. Maybe in the 70’s, but not today. I await others view on this one!

I am seeing hundreds of fish come off the lake every week. A hi percentage of them are under 12 in. These guys are meat fishing. They dont toss anything back , and also dont look for bigger fish. I feel certain that there are still some good fish there. When you find them please call me!

in the mid/late 80s. It was either feast or famine. If we got there early enough to get the right spot, which was right over the river ledge. We did well. That place had a lot of boats on it when the word got out that the fish were biting. But it sure got windy @ night. We learned to take cinder blocks and hang them on the side of the bridge. It was the only was to keep from getting blown off the bridge. We never caught any big fish, but most were 3/4-1#.
I got stuck and the ramp at Bagby State Park ramp when I backed up too far and went off the concrete. Had to wait for someone to come to pull me back onto the ramp. The water was real low for quite awhile when we fished there. I would fish to 2-3am, go home and sleep till 7:30 and get up and go to work. I was young then....not now.

Thanks to everyone for the information. The way it sound I need to go and learn some by trial and error. I am not even sure where the best palce is to put in?
