Default Trying out boat, registration expired

I will be trying out a boat this weekend in anticipation of purchase. The boat has been in storage and the registration expired in 07. Does anyone know what I need to do to cover myself if DNR stops me on the water?

if you are really "trying it out" you should be ok, just dont go spending the whole day on the lake! i know they are out there, but i have never seen one on the water. they could be up in the trees scouting with binoculars though. who knows. you can take a chance or pay 20 bucks to reg.

    Default bill of sale

i did that once and talked to the game wardens. they said as long as you have the bill of sale with you and everything is legal on the boat they have no issues with it. good luck with the boat. tommy

Get current owner to fill the green registration form and send it in , as long as you have the part you keep you'll be fine.

Be prepared for more than $20.00. Online is easy. Use the Bill of sale at goboatgeorgia.com. Use the guidelines listed and you will have no problems. The Bill of Sale for the boat has to be notorized. Get a separate bill of sale for the trailor and include it's own VIN NUMBER. It did not have to be notorized. Went through all this 2 weeks ago. Be prepared for a convenience charge, renewal fee, and transfer fee. My 18' cost 48 bucks. I believe it was handled in Arlington, Va.

register price depends the size of the boat also.it is ver important to have a seperate bill of sale for the trailer and vin number listed in it. tag office will not accept the bill of sale if it doesnt specifically say trailer.

Chances are, you won't get asked. If you do, be nice about it, and explain your situation. I have been in an unregistered boat on vacation, and just explained that we bought it the day before we left (which we did), and hadn't had the time to register it. None of the 3 guys who checked us cared, and this was for a week up on the coast of NC.

More often than not, if they do check you, it is to make sure you have safety gear, fishing license, and haven't gone over the limit on fish.
