    Default Night Fishing

I am trying to get rigged for night fishing. I wanted to know if anyone knows how to convert a 48" floresent light from 110V to 12V.

I looked and looked for a transformer that would convert it but could never find it. Ended up getting a www.hydroglow.com light. $$$ but is made in Dawsonville and lights the whole area up like a green spaceship around the boat. You should have seen crappiedays boat and mine tied together fishing at night last year. He has one and so do I. All I can say is WOW!!!! Lit up the whole lake!!

Cant you just purchase a convertor and run 110 off the battery thru it?!?

yes a converter will work . don`t know how long a deep cyckle will last . i have a400 wat haven`t tried it on a light like that .if you wan`t to light the boat up git a 12v bulb from a auto parts store . fasten it to a pice of pvc pipe and stand it up inn anothe small pice a little larger than it fastened ti the boat some way .

You can bowman... I've got serveral invertors running on fork lifts at work running 110v printers, etc. I would think it would kill a 12v deep cycle battery pretty quick though.

Don't know about the power consumption from a 110 volt ac 48" floresent light but the 110 volt ac 26 watt compact floresent plugged into an inverter uses very little power. That light output is the same as 100 watt blub. While bank fishing last summer, I would run an extension cord from the inverter hooked up to my starting battery in my truck, fish all night and still be able to start the engine with no problems.

I'm not familiar with an inverter. Where would you get one and how would it hook up to a light fixture?

That's good to hear. I wanted some of those energy saver bulbs and being as there's nowhere local to buy them in 12 v. I order 2 @ $10 ea. Before I pay that again I was figuring I'd buy the energy saver bulbs in 110 v. at Walmart for @ $3 ea. and pick up a small converter to run 'em with. Then I'd have the convertor for anything else that comes up and any future bulbs wouldnt hurt the pocket so much. Those bulbs in cool white really light up painted rod tips at night.....alot better than conventional light bulbs do and I'm hoping they dont draw so many bugs when it gets warm at night. The ones I'm using now in 13 watt (eq. to 60 watt standard bulbs) draw practically nothing from a deep cycle battery.
